| Defense Tymaine Strickland School: Union City Grade: Sophomore Height: 5-8 Weight: 165 Pos.: Linebacker By the numbers: Strickland filled a variety of roles for a Tornado defense that toughened considerably after allowing WC a third-quarter touchdown and limited the War Eagles to minus-eight yards on their final four possessions. Playing some linebacker, other times at end and even some snaps in the secondary, the rising sophomore who led the team with 76 solo tackles for the season, ended up with six — including a sack and a second stop for lost yardage against West Carroll. Sound bite: “We asked Ty to do a lot of things Friday night, and whether he put his hand on the ground at end, blitzed as a linebacker or was in the secondary, he did them all well,” Bowling said of Strickland’s play vs. the War Eagles. “I thought he really came on in the second half of the season and became a leader and a playmaker. The best thing is that we have him two more years. I expect him to take his game to another level during that time.” HONORABLE MENTION: Ricky Henry, UC freshman end, had had six solo tackles.
