CLARKSVILLE (AP) — With the peak period here for deer-related traffic accidents, the Clarksville Police Department has listed recommendations for avoiding them.
Officers said in a news release that the high-risk periods are from sunset to midnight and then shortly before and after sunrise.
Police suggest using high beams when there is no oncoming traffic.
If there is one deer, there are usually more to follow.
Be especially aware on the interstate where speeds are higher and longer reaction time is required.
If a crash is inevitable, stay in your lane and don’t swerve. Brake firmly, hold onto the steering wheel and make a controlled stop. Published in The Messenger 11.23.11
