The Weakley County School System is mourning the loss of a 17-year-old Dresden High School junior after he lost his life last week in a car accident.
According to the Tennessee Highway Patrol, Hunter Scott Taylor died Friday at The Med in Memphis after sustaining injuries in a single-vehicle accident Wednesday evening.
Trooper Clint Todd said Taylor was travleing northbound on Highway 54 outside of Dresden when his 2006 Nissan Murano left the roadway, hit a ditch and then struck a tree.
Taylor was not wearing a seat belt at the time. He was airlifted from the scene to the Memphis hospital.
School officials were notified late Friday afternoon that Taylor had died.
“We join the students and staff in expressing our sincerest sympathy to this family,” Randy Frazier, director of the Weakley County School System, noted in a press release.
“Mr. Chuck West, the school’s principal, and all of us aware of this tragedy, keep this young man and his family in our thoughts. Losing a young person is one of the hardest situations to understand.”
Frazier added West and his staff were assessing the support needs of students and staff.
“Our response team is ready to help if we see a need for additional counseling support.”
Taylor is the son of Benjamin and Jennifer McCoy Taylor.
