A Union City driver apparently was injured when a vehicle struck a utility pole Friday night on West Main Street near Everett Boulevard in Union City.
Derrell L. Garner, 52, of 2710 Macon Drive, Union City, was transported by ambulance to Baptist Memorial Hospital-Union City following a crash that occurred about 9:45 p.m., according to a Union City Police Department report.
Police who responded to the accident scene in the 1700 block of West Main Street found a green 1997 Jeep had left the roadway and struck a utility pole, causing it to break. Garner was belted in the driver’s seat and appeared to be unconscious. He was taken to the emergency room for treatment of possible injury.
A check of Garner’s driver’s license by police revealed it was revoked for a prior DUI, and police reported detecting an odor of alcohol Friday night, according to the report.
Garner apparently left the roadway about 100 feet from where his vehicle hit the utility pole and where the vehicle came to rest, police reported.
He was issued a citation at the emergency room for failure to stay in lane. The accident remains under investigation and the investigating officer will obtain warrants for other alleged offenses, according to the report.
