The “Tradition: Tennessee Lives and Legacies” exhibit, featuring folk artists representing every region of Tennessee, will be available at the Ned R. McWherter West Tennessee Cultural Arts Center until Dec. 30.
The center, located at 314 East Main St. in Jackson, is open Mondays through Fridays from 9 a.m. until 4:30 p.m.
The book and supporting exhibition testify to the strength and diversity of Tennessee’s grassroots cultural life and to the importance of traditional artists who continue to sustain art forms and practices through their mastery and dedication. The subjects — mostly individuals and a few pairs of trios of people — represent different areas of Tennessee, different ethnicities and different cultural specialties — from music and crafts to cooking and marble-playing.
