STUFFING SHOE BOXES – Members and volunteers at Bible Union Baptist Church in Martin have been hurriedly filling shoe boxes for Operation Christmas Child, a division of Samaritan’s Purse. This international relief and evangelism organization, headed by Franklin Graham, provides aid to victims of war, disease, disaster, poverty, famine and persecution all over the world. Shoe boxes have been filling up Nov. 14-21 as part of National Collection Week and these boxes contain such items as toothpaste, toys and school supplies to be shipped to over 8 million children worldwide by air, ship, train or whatever means necessary. In the case of Bible Union, the shoe boxes are packed into larger boxes which are then taken to a collection center in Troy where they are sent to the headquarters in Boone, N.C., and then all over the world. Among those who helped at Bible Union were (front, from left) Ray Peery, Russ Wireman, JoAnn Wireman, Bobbie Gardner, Wanda Arant, Martha Merrell, Barbara Hunter, Shirley Royster, Betty Wilson, Dorothy Ogg, Charles Ogg, (back, from left) Norma Redden Wanda Griffin and Bro. Terry Griffin, pastor of Bible Union.
