Bake sale planned
Members of St. James Episcopal Church  at 422 East Church St. in Union City will provide delicious holiday fare for shoppers planning for the holidays Saturday beginning at 9 a.m. There will be cakes, pies, soups, casseroles and more and the community is invited to attend.

To give thanks
The community is invited to join the congregation of St. James Baptist Church and the Rev. M.L. Easley at 512 Troy Road near Obion for the annual Thanksgiving Day program Sunday at 3 p.m. Dr. Garland White of St. John Missionary Baptist  Church in Mounds, Ill., will be the speaker.

CP service set
Members of Union City Cumberland Presbyterian Church on the corner of East Church and South Home streets will begin Sunday services at the church with prayer at 9:45 a.m. for the congregation, the worship service, the church and the nation.
Sunday school will follow at 10, with worship at 11. The latter will be broadcast live on WOBT-TV.
Holy Grounds coffee fellowship with coffee, doughnuts and good conversation will take place at 10:40. A nursery is provided for services.
The Rev. Mike Osment, Baptist Memorial Hospital-Union City chaplain, will be the speaker and will take his sermon from Philippians 4:10-14, “A Formula for Thanksgiving.”
 The second performance of the newly formed “Rainbow Bells,” made up of ringers from prekindergarten through fifth grade, will present “Come Thou Fount of Every Blessing.”

Bazaar to open
First United Pentecostal Church, located at 1105 Edwards St. in Union City, will present a holiday bazaar Saturday from 8 a.m.-2 p.m., with breakfast and a chili or beans and cornbread lunch featured.
There will be a variety of baked goods, including homemade coconut, chocolate, strawberry, Swiss, Italian cream, German chocolate, apple and other delicious cakes; pecan, chess, pumpkin, chocolate, caramel and other pies; pumpkin rolls; banana nut bread; zucchini bread; homemade candy; cookies and more.
Crafts will include decorative plates, knitted dish rags, crocheted hats, hair accessories, personalized bow holders, crocheted towel holders and personalized trivets and coasters. Gift items include new and almost-new possibilities, such as toys, purses, recipe gift kits, home decor items, candles, Christmas decorations and more.
There will also be a variety of canned goods such as pear preserves, pear honey, applesauce, muscadine jelly, plum jelly, peach preserves, green tomato relish, salsa and piccalilli, plus homemade dressing, sweet potato casseroles and other dinner items for holiday entertaining.

To honor pastor
The congregation of Friendship Free Will Baptist Church, located at 1304 Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Drive in Union City, will be honoring Elder  Eugene Coleman and his wife for 34 years of service at an Appreciation Day service Sunday. The 11 a.m. speaker will be Elder Melvin Wade. The 2:30 speaker will be Elder Rozelle Dotstry, pastor of Bashan Baptist Church in Rives. His congregation will be special guests.
A meal will be served when the guests arrive.

To mark Harvest Day
Members of Home Street Church of God at 417 South Home St. in Union City will celebrate Harvest Day Sunday. The morning service will begin at 10:30, with new members being received into the church. There will also be a special message about the harvest.
A meal will be served following the service and The Borders will sing at 1:30.
“We are excited about the harvest God has allowed us to be a part of this year. We are seeing many lives changed by the power of God. We invite all our friends to come celebrate with us as we honor God for His blessings on our church,” a spokesman said.

Phelps concert set
David Phelps will present a Christmas concert Nov. 28 at 7 p.m. at West Jackson Baptist Church, located at 580 Oil Well Road in Jackson.
Tickets are $20 for general admission and $25 for gold circle seating.

Deer Day slated
Pentecostal Tabernacle, located at 16235 State Route 45 South in Water Valley, Ky., will host Deer Day Saturday, beginning at 8 a.m. The congregation will process donated meat to give to needy families.

Bazaar planned
Faith Lutheran Church, located at 2012 East Reelfoot Ave. in Union City, is planning a Christmas bazaar, bake sale and chili lunch Saturday from 10 a.m.-2 p.m.
Handmade crafts and baked items will be available and homemade chili will be offered for eat-in or take-out dining.
The youth and parents of the church sponsor the event to support future activities for young people in the congregation.

Community service set
The annual Community  Thanksgiving service will be Sunday at 6 p.m. at Union City First Baptist Church. Sponsored by the Obion County Ministerial Association, the service will feature special music from a community choir, which will practice at the church at 5 p.m., and soloist Allison Butner singing “The Midnight Cry.”
The Rev. Tommy Hall, pastor of Union City First Assembly of God and outgoing president of the association, will bring the message.
The community is invited to attend.
A special offering will be received to benefit several area charities and organizations assisting others.
