William Percy Thomas, 87, of Hickman, Ky., died Nov. 15, 2011, at Union City Manor Nursing Home.
Services will be at Strong Funeral Home in Hickman Thursday at 11 a.m., with the Revs. Henry Callison and Jason Sipes officiating. Burial will follow in Hickman City Cemetery.
The family will receive visitors from 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home this evening and on Thursday from 9 a.m. until service time.
Memorials may be made to West Hickman Baptist Church, 1003 Broadway St., Hickman, KY 42050; or to the Perpetual Care Fund at Beech Grove United Methodist Church, in care of Peggy Thomas, 3308 Cottonwood Drive, Union City, TN 38261.
He was a retired supervisor with the former Sigri Carbon Plant and a retired foreman with the Fulton County (Ky.) Highway Department and had worked at Strong Funeral Home. A veteran of World War II, he served with the Marines and was part of the First Wave at Iwo Jima with the 11th Amphibian Tractor Battalion. He was a Gideon and a deacon and member of West Hickman Baptist Church.
He is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Betty and Douglas Pair of Union City; his brother, Alton Thomas of Union City; two sisters, Lakie Morgan of Acworth, Ga., and Helen McDaniel of Union City; four grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Willie and Pearl (Watson) Thomas; his wife, Oneida (Glidewell) Thomas; his daughter, Judy Wright; and three brothers, Nolan Thomas, Royce Thomas and Gaylon Thomas.
