John Robert “Bobby” McKnight, 85, of Union City died Nov. 11, 2011, at Golden Living Center in Union City.
A graveside service was held 3 p.m. Saturday at East View Cemetery in Union City. Charles Miller officiated.
Pallbearers were Johnny Garrett, Mikey Pierce, Keith Forrester, Kenny Crews, Allen Herchenhahn, Dale Coble and L.N. McNabb.
The family requests memorials be made to Obion County Hometown Walk of Hope, the Obion County Public Library or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
He was born Dec. 4, 1925, in Dyer County, son of the late Jack McKnight and Daisy (Simmons) McKnight. He was married to Evelyn Ann (Corum) McKnight, who survives.
He was a retired engineer for BellSouth, having retired in 1985, and was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II. He was a member of First United Methodist Church of Union City, the Veterans of Foreign Wars, the Telephone Pioneers and Union City Lodge 538 Free & Accepted Masons.
He was an avid gardener and sportsman.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Rob and Vickie McKnight of Rives; two granddaughters, Shelley McKnight of Union City and Tracey Batey of Rives; and two great-grandchildren, Gray Batey and Brooke Batey, both of Rives.
