Ferry operating again across Mississippi River
HICKMAN, Ky. (AP) — The Dorena-Hickman Ferry, which carries traffic across the Mississippi River, is open again after high winds forced operators to shut it down Sunday.
Keith Todd of the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet said winds had died down considerably and were blowing at only about 17 mph at dawn today.
The ferry is operating on a winter schedule, carrying vehicle traffic between Hickman, Ky., and Dorena in the Missouri bootheel.
Todd said wind gusts up to 47 mph were kicking up 4-foot waves on Sunday afternoon when the ferry was taken out of service. Published in The Messenger 11.14.11
