|HICKMAN, Ky. (AP) — The Dorena-Hickman Ferry, which carries traffic across the Mississippi River, is open again after high winds forced operators to shut it down Sunday. |
Keith Todd of the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet said winds had died down considerably and were blowing at only about 17 mph at dawn today.
The ferry is operating on a winter schedule, carrying vehicle traffic between Hickman, Ky., and Dorena in the Missouri bootheel.
Todd said wind gusts up to 47 mph were kicking up 4-foot waves on Sunday afternoon when the ferry was taken out of service. Published in The Messenger 11.14.11
