The Union City Fire Department has already given away all of the 100 smoke alarms which were being offered to the public free of charge.
The local fire department received 100 smoke alarms from the Tennessee Fire Marshal’s Office and, in Wednesday’s edition of The Messenger, offered them free of charge to anyone in need in the community. By early Thursday afternoon, all of the alarms were gone.
Firefighter Trena Edgin, who handles the fire department’s public education program, said she appreciates the positive response from the public. She is checking to see if there is a possibility the department can obtain any more alarms and she will make an announcement if any more become available. “Right now, we are out of them, though,” she said Thursday.
