|Lake Road outscored South Fulton 11-3 in the third quarter to rally and win an early showdown of unbeaten Obion County School System middle school girls’ team 44-40 Thursday night. |
The Lady Generals are now 4-0, while SF dropped to 6-1.
Lake Road won the boys’ game, too, 37-29.
In other Junior High games from Thursday night reported to The Messenger, Ridgemont took a pair from Hillcrest, winning 35-26 and 58-43 in girls’ and boys’ play respectively, while Black Oak came out on the short end of two games with Three Oaks, 49-17 and 42-7.
The following is a recap.
LR girls early leaders
Avery Partin led the Lady Generals with 16 points, while Macy Horner tallied 13.
Hannah Cavness scored eight for LR, which led 11-10 after one, but trailed by a point (23-22) at halftime.
An 11-3 advantage in the third period proved to be the difference for Lake Road.
South Fulton’s Taylor Rogers led all scorers with 18 points, while Aalia Bivens pitched in 13. Cassidy Ruddle, who’d recorded a double-double in each of the Devilettes’ six victories, ended up with six points and seven rebounds on Thursday.
SF drew to within two points late in the game, but could never get over the hump.
The Lake Road boys also used a big second-half push to record a victory, outscoring the Redmen 11-2 in the final period.
Brett Jackson finished with 13 points and 11 rebounds for the Generals (3-1) and teammate Seth Clouse also had 13 markers and nine caroms.
Brennan Whaley contributed six points and four steals to the winning cause.
Jyriq Jones scored 11 points and had three steals for the Devils (3-4), while Chris Morris was good for eight points and four rebounds.
South Fulton plays at Ridgemont on Monday, while Lake Road’s next game is at Union City Tuesday.
Mustangs sweep H’crest
The Lady Mustangs outscored Hillcrest 19-10 in the second half to break a 16-all deadlock at intermission and record their second win in five games.
Samantha Davis had 12 points to lead the winners, while Landry Webster totaled eight. Both Bailey Daniel and Keaton Cooper scored six each.
In the nightcap, Nathan King erupted for 27 points for Ridgemont (3-2), while used a 20-4 third-quarter blitz to break open a tight game.
Nathan Lynch had six points for the winners, while Emanuel Morgan and Noah Cooper had five points and six boards apiece.
Hillcrest did not report its statistics for either game.
Ridgemont hosts South Fulton on Monday.
BO still searching
Both Black Oak squads fell to 0-4 with home losses to the Dyer County entry.
Nellina Wooten had six points and Harley Burress five for the Lady Eagles.
Drake McGuire scored five for the BO boys.
