Lewis Edward Boykin Sr., 70, of Thomson, Ga., brother of Dan Boykin of Union City, died Nov. 3, 2011, at his home.
Services were Tuesday at 11 a.m. at Tabernacle Baptist Church in Augusta, Ga., with interment following there in Hillcrest Memorial Park Mausoleum.
He was born May 22, 1941, in Crockett County, son of the late Sallie (Champion) and Dan Boykin Sr. He was a graduate of Georgia Military College and served his country with the U.S. Army 1st Calvary Division during the Vietnam Conflict. He received many medals and awards during his 20 years of service and retired with the rank of sergeant first class. His military career was in law enforcement and he was a member of Retired Military Police Association.
He is also survived by four other brothers and sisters-in-law, Charles Boykin of Detroit, William and Eddie Boykin of Little Rock, Ark., Thomas and Lucy Boykin of Humboldt and Arthur and Erna Boykin of Paducah, Ky., and Marquetta Boykin of Union City; his sister, Bessie Clark of Chicago; his son, Lewis Boykin II of Aiken, S.C.; four daughters, Brenda Douglas of Jackson, Zaldralyn Boykin of Atlanta, Danette Boykin of New York and Kristi Boykin of North Carolina; seven grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; two uncles; his aunt; his fiancée, Deloise Asberry of Thomson; and several nieces and nephews.
He was also preceded in death by his brother, Leonard McNeal.
