A fund-raiser collection jar reportedly was taken Thursday night from a downtown Union City establishment.
Police responded about 7:50 p.m. to Bill Cody’s Bar at 204 South First St. in reference to a theft, according to a Union City Police Department report.
A bartender told police an unknown white man came inside the business and asked to use the telephone. The man then left and came back while the bartender was cleaning the bar. The man allegedly stole a collection jar which contained money that was to be used as a fund raiser for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital in Memphis.
The man apparently ran to a red mini-van and fled. A witness told police she saw the man get the money out of the jar and drop the jar on the sidewalk.
The man was reported to be of slender build and wearing blue jeans and a white sweatshirt.
