SF, UC meet again with similar results
South Fulton’s girls and Union City’s boys are still unbeaten.
In a junior high county showdown at the Red Devils’ gymnasium Tuesday night, SF knocked off Union City 41-27 in the girls’ game and then UC came back for a 47-10 win in the boys’ nightcap.
The two teams split in similar fashion a week ago at the Jr. Tornado gym.
The Red Devilettes are now 6-0, while the Tornado boys are 2-0.
In other local action on Tuesday, Black Oak was swept at Northview, 36-22 in girls’ play and 46-4 in boys’ action.
Devils, UC split
Cassidy Ruddle posted a double-double to lead the Red Devilettes, scoring 20 points and grabbing 11 rebounds. She also had eight steals.
Taylor Rogers, meanwhile, pitched in 13 points and seven rebounds for South Fulton.
The Devilettes opened up a gap in the fourth period, outscoring Union City 12-4 in the final segment after leading just 8-6 after one quarter, 18-14 at the half and 29-23 at the end of three periods.
In the boys’ nightcap, UC allowed just five points in each half and had 13 players with at least three points in the game.
The Tornadoes held a 31-5 lead at intermission.
Will Sisco, Mark Jackson and Jake Guess had six points each for the Twisters.
South Fulton hosts Lake Road on Thursday, while UC’s next games will be Monday at home against Halls.
Eagle teams fall
Northview pulled away from the Black Oak in the second half of the girls’ game for the first of two wins in junior high basketball action on Tuesday night.
In the opener, Black Oak led 11-8 at the half but was outscored 28-11 in the second half.
Nellina Wooten had 12 points, and Trisha Schmidt added six points for the Lady Eagles.
In the boys’ nightcap, Hayden Davis scored all four Eagle points, two in each half.
Both Eagle teams are 0-3 and will host Three Oaks on Thursday. Published in The Messenger 11.9.11
