| Keylon Hyde |
School: Union City
By the numbers: Hyde had one of the best playoff performances by any player to wear a Golden Tornado uniform as Union City rolled over Memphis Academy of Health Sciences 48-12 in the opening round of Class 1A Friday night at War Memorial Stadium. Hyde carried 41 times, second-most for a UC back in a playoff game, for 272 yards and three touchdowns, including a 32-yard scoring run near the end of the first half.
Sound bite: “Keylon has grown each week, matured and become a better runner,” UC head coach Darren Bowling said. “He’s not just running up the middle, he’s also making moves for big plays. Friday, we saw some good things from him in the open field. He would make moves, but he would also punish the defensive backs. We take what teams give us. As long as the fullback is moving the ball, we’ll continue to let him run it, and that was the case Friday night.”
HONORABLE MENTION: LaDevin Fair, OC senior running back, 232 yards and a TD on 23 carries; Travis Rutland, UC junior quarterback, carried 12 times for 105 yards and two TDs and also threw a touchdown pass.
