CUT LOOSE — State naturalist David Haggard had an audience as he captured and released an eagle Saturday afternoon at Reelfoot Lake. The bird was injured earlier this year and was being rehabilitated in the raptor cage behind the Reelfoot Lake Visitors Center. The raptor cage is a popular attraction for visitors to Reelfoot Lake and the winter months are the busiest months of the year for tourism. The lake hosts thousands of tourists, as well as duck hunters. This winter marks the 200th anniversary of the formation of Reelfoot Lake. A Reelfoot Lake Bicentennial Committee is working on a series of events to commemorate the formation of the lake. Reelfoot Lake and the Fall Colors/White Pelican Canoe Trip will be featured in an upcoming Friends & Neighbors.
