FRANKFORT, Ky. (AP) — Kentuckians can get their first look at a renovated Kentucky Military History Museum at the State Arsenal on Veterans Day.
The museum in downtown Frankfort will reopen to the public in a ceremony on Nov. 11.
The facility is operated by the Kentucky Historical Society and the Kentucky Department of Military Affairs.
So far, nearly $1.5 million has been allocated to the renovation project. By the time the restoration is complete, expected in 2013, the project will cost more than $2 million.
Built in 1850, the State Arsenal is listed in the National Register of Historic Places.
A “Kentucky Military Treasures” exhibit will be on display when the museum reopens. Besides artifacts, the exhibition features stories of Kentuckians who fought in battles spanning nearly 200 years.
