One suspect has been arrested and a second is still being sought in Tuesday’s robbery at a Union City convenience store.
Michael Danner, 23, of Fulton was charged Wednesday with aggravated robbery, theft and tampering with evidence, charges which stem from an early-morning robbery at Pockets Shell at 1605 West Reelfoot Ave. in Union City.
Union City Police Department investigator Derrick O’Dell, who made the arrest Wednesday, said Danner is the suspect who allegedly was “clearly seen” on store surveillance video and whose photo — as a person of interest sought by police — was published Tuesday in The Messenger.
Police have warrants on a second suspect sought in the robbery — Demetris “Pontiac” Shearer, 21, also of Fulton — who remains at large today.
Shearer is described as a black man who is 5-feet-8-inches tall and 155 pounds. He has multiple tattoos, including visible tattoos on his hands and right wrist. He may have gold caps on his front teeth and shaved lines on his right eyebrow, according to O’Dell.
He goes by the street name “Pontiac.”
O’Dell said the warrants obtained on Shearer are for charges of aggravated robbery, theft, unlawful possession of a weapon by a convicted felon and tampering with evidence.
Anyone who has information on Shearer’s whereabouts is asked to call the Union City Police Department at 885-1515 or Crime Stoppers at 885-TIPS (885-8477). Crime Stoppers may also be emailed at ucpd@ci.unioncity.tn.us.

The robbery at Pockets Shell occurred shortly after 2 a.m. Tuesday, according to Union City police. A store employee told police an unknown man entered the store brandishing a handgun and fled with an undisclosed amount of cash.
No injuries were reported.
The robbery suspect was described as a light-skinned black man who was wearing a gray hoody and dark purple shorts. He reportedly ran out the store’s door toward the car wash area and onto the Walmart parking lot toward a dark-colored Ford Expedition.
Store video surveillance photos released by police and published in Tuesday’s edition of The Messenger included the robbery suspect and a suspect vehicle, as well as the person of interest who was arrested Wednesday following investigation by police.
