The UT Martin tennis team emerged as victors in 16 out of its 22 matches this past weekend, taking on a trio of teams in its third-annual Rock ‘N’ Roll tournament.
In their third fall tournament of the season, the Skyhawks hosted Lipscomb, North Alabama and Southeast Missouri. UT Martin went 13-3 in its 16 singles matches and followed with an even 3-3 record in doubles action.
Ivon Simic and Anna Winkelmann led the way for UTM in singles play with three wins each.
Simic also had a doubles win, teaming with Katie McCall.
McCall and Jessica Silva had two singles wins, while Jodie Tiley and Johanie Van Zyl each won the only singles matches they played.
Anna Marie Herbold lost her only singles match but teamed with Van Zyl and Alice Laing for doubles wins.
Laing split her two two singles matches.
“Overall, I would say that we did very well, but we still have some doubles combinations to work out before next spring,” UT Martin head coach Dennis Taylor said.
Besides the fact it performed exceptionally well in the tournament, the UT Martin tennis team also benefitted in another big way by its success on the court. After this weekend’s results, the Skyhawks have now raised $2,061 in their annual effort to benefit the Ronald McDonald House.
UT Martin will continue its fall schedule this weekend when it travels to South Carolina to take part in the Duckworth First Annual Fall Classic hosted by Clemson University. Published in The WCP 10.25.11
