EARLY-MORNING ACCIDENT — Officials on the scene of a four-car accident early this morning on Highway 22 between Martin and Union City were still trying to determine what happened as traffic from both directions was re-routed for more than an hour. Tennessee Highway Patrol Sgt. Mike Ford said a preliminary investigation shows the driver of the red Ford F-150 was headed toward Martin on the highway when he apparently veered toward the shoulder, overcorrected and flipped in the median, landing in oncoming traffic. According to Ford, the driver cited low visibility as a factor. Two people were transported by Weakley County Ambulance Service and one person was airlifted from the scene to Regional Medical Center in Memphis and another was flown to a Jackson hospital. No fatalities were reported. Agencies responding to the scene included the Tennessee Highway Patrol, Weakley County Sheriff’s Department, Martin Fire Department and the Martin Police Department. Martin Fire Chief Russell Schwahn commented they were fortunate there weren’t four people who died as a result of the wreck.
