A growing number of consumers are interested in a direct connection with the farmer who produces their food. This includes meat. In November and December the University of Tennessee Center for Profitable Agriculture in Spring Hill is conducting a set of workshops for cattle producers who are considering marketing live animals to consumers for custom harvesting and as well as those considering finishing cattle to be processed for retail meat sales.
The workshops are being held at various locations and dates across the state: Nov. 1 in Stewart County; Nov. 7 in Humphreys County; Nov. 8 in Hickman County; Nov. 28 in Perry County; Nov. 29 in Giles County; and Dec. 13 in Loudon County. Each workshop has a registration deadline approximately one week before the date of the course. All meetings are from 6-9 p.m. There is no cost to attend a workshop, and dinner is included as part of the program. Pre-registration is required; however.
