Ashley Bell of Dresden received the Reserve Champion award for her 4-H project chickens which were sponsored by Mike Johnson of Farm Credit Services.
The annual Weakley County 4-H Poultry Show was held on the court square in Dresden on Sept. 27. Each year students from across the county participate in this project by raising pullets.
Students receive twenty-five day-old chicks in May and care for them throughout the summer.
To enter the show students select their best six birds to compete against other 4-H members.  
The birds are judged on their overall maturity and health.
Lyndsey Killebrew, a fifth grader from Martin Elementary was recognized for having the Grand Champion pullets for this year’s show.
State Rep.Andy Holt purchased Lyndsey’s birds at the annual sponsor auction that followed the show. Ashley Bell, a Dresden Middle School sixth grader received the reserve champion award for her birds which were purchased by Farm Credit Services.
Seven 4-H members received blue ribbons awards for their chickens. Those members include Alli Moss of Martin, Peter McDonald of McKenzie, C.J. Brewer of Martin, John Brock of Greenfield, Hannah Moss of Martin, Demi Lackey of Sharon and Austin Brewer of Martin.
Kenny Herndon, Carroll County Extension Agent served as the judge for this year’s show. The sponsor auction was conducted by auctioneer Marshall Anderson.
Other sponsors for this year’s 4-H Poultry project included Jimmy Dilday, Jo Bell, Shane Kendal, and Allen Lofton.
The 4-H Poultry Project is designed to teach students responsibility and the value of commitment while raising livestock.
