Burn permits required

NASHVILLE (AP) — With the return of autumn, outdoor burn permits are again required in Tennessee.
The fall fire season began Saturday and lasts until May 15.
The permits are free and easily obtained by calling local Forestry Division offices. A list of them is online at http://burnsafetn.org. The local numbers are also under the government listings in telephone directories.
Tennessee Forestry Division information forester Tim Phelps says the permit system focuses on fire safety and helps prevent wildfires by not issuing permits during unsafe periods.
Tips on how to safely use fire as a tool to burn debris are also posted on the website.
