JACKSON (AP) — A teenager arrested after his former girlfriend was fatally shot has now been charged with an assortment of crimes in Jackson.
After a joint investigation by Jackson Police and the Madison County Sheriff’s Office, 18-year-old Tray Chaney was charged Thursday with first-degree murder, attempted first-degree murder, aggravated robbery, felony evading arrest and possession of a weapon in a felony.
Police said Chaney forced 18-year-old Daphne Rose Kenner’s car off a road on Tuesday, then fatally shot her and wounded 21-year-old Kenneth Price, who was a passenger in the young woman’s car. Chaney is charged with then carjacking a family in a van.
Chaney is scheduled for arraignment today in Jackson City Court. He was held at the Madison County Jail where it wasn’t clear whether he yet had an attorney.
He was booked into the jail Thursday evening after being released from Western Mental Health Institute in Bolivar.
