Westview scores 12
in prep soccer win

Emily Plunk had the hat trick, Kayla Guthrie did that one better and four other players scored as Westview blanked Scotts Hill 12-0 in high school soccer action Tuesday in Martin.
Guthrie scored four goals, and Plunk added three for the Lady Chargers, who improved to 14-2 overall.
Shelby Donavant added two goals, while Amanda Jenkins, Melissa Darroch and Amberly Baker all scored one goal as Westview had 36 shots in all.
Dunavant and Kelsey Hauhe had two saves each.
Makenzie Vincent had two saves in goal and recorded her 12th shutout of the year.
The Lady Charger players wore pink socks for breast cancer awareness.

Gleason’s Belew loses
battle with illness

Longtime Gleason high school and middle school football coach David Belew died this past weekend after a long bout with illness.
Belew most recently served as the Bulldogs as videographer for Friday night games.
He was a volunteer coach at the high school under Sam Guthrie and the middle school under Richard Usery.

Martin City Lodge
to host golf outing

The Martin City Lodge No. 551 fourth annual fall classic charity golf tournament is scheduled for Saturday at Doe Valley Golf Center.
The event will played in a four-person scramble format with a shotgun start at 8 a.m.
Entry fee is $45 per person, which includes closest to the pins, longest drive, hole-in-one and mulligans. Lunch is also included.

Dresden softball
to hold alumni game

The Dresden Lady Lions softball team is hosting an Alumi/Old Timers game Saturday at Dresden City Park.
The games will start at 4 p.m.
The cost to play is $20, and participants will receive a free T-shirt.

McMillan, players
on all-OVC list

Kevin McMillan and two UT Martin players have been honored by College Sports Madness.
McMillan has been  named OVC women’s basketball coach of the year, while Heather Butler and Jasmine New-some have been tabbed as All-OVC first-team picks for the 2011-12 season.

Martin youth hoops
to sign up players

Registration for the 2nd through 8th grade participants of Martin Parks and Recreation’s Youth League Basketball program will be held Oct. 17-28.
Registration will take place at the MPR office at 109 University Street during regular office hours (Mon.-Fri.; 7:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. and 1:30-4 p.m.).
The registration fee this year will be $30.
Practices will begin the week of Nov. 7 with all divisions scheduled to begin the season on Jan. 7, 2012.
