Together with their parents, Jessica Leighann Barton and Steven Edward Hayes, both of Birmingham, Ala., are pleased to announce their engagement.
The bride-elect is the daughter of Roy Edward and Gail Perkins Barton of Birmingham, formerly of Weakly County. Her grandparents are Betty Perkins and the late Calvin Perkins of Dresden and Mr. and Mrs. Lee Barton of Jasper, Ala.  
Ms. Barton holds a bachelors of arts degree from Samford University and a masters of library and information studies from the University of Alabama.
A member of Phi Alpha Theta and Alpha Psi Omega, Ms. Barton has also authored a book titled, “Historic Photos of Birmingham in the 1950s, 1960s and 1970s.” She works as an e-content specialist at EBSCO International Headquarters in Birmingham.
The groom–elect is the son of Timothy Hayes and Carolyn Rakestraw Hayes of Birmingham. His grandparents are the late Mr. and Mrs. William Edward Rakestraw of Birmingham and Mr. and Mrs. James Hayes of Margaret, Ala.  
Hayes graduated from the University of Alabama with a bachelor of science in Operations Management. A member of Alpha Kappa Psi, he played tenor saxophone in the Million Dollar Band for the University of Alabama. He is a purchasing specialist at Hyundai Motor Manufacturing in Montgomery, Ala.
The couple will exchange vows on Dec. 17 at 2:30 p.m.
The wedding will take place at Shades Mountain Independent Church in Hoover, Ala.
