MEMPHIS (AP) — Court records show that a Memphis teenager charged with planning his school principal’s death for months before fatally stabbing her on the third day of classes is scheduled to appear in court Friday.
Eduardo Marmolejo has a scheduled hearing in Shelby County court. The 16-year-old is charged with first-degree murder in the Aug. 10 death of Memphis Junior Academy principal Suzette York.
The 49-year-old York was found lying in blood by a teacher in a classroom. An autopsy report showed she was stabbed multiple times and suffered cuts to her jugular vein.
Court records show the purpose of Marmolejo’s hearing is to determine if he has a lawyer. A public defender could be assigned to the case.
A Juvenile Court judge decided that Marmolejo should be tried as an adult.
