Agricultural landowners and farmers interested in installing conservation measures on their farmland are encouraged to contact the Natural Resources Conservation Service to submit an application for the Environmental Quality Incentives Program (EQIP).
The applications will be for the 2012 program and cost share funds up to 75 percent may be provided for applying conservation measures on agricultural lands in Weakley County. The first EQIP signup and selection period is scheduled to end Oct 28.
The EQIP program is open to any type of agricultural operation, including, and not limited to, row crop, livestock, confined animal feeding, and vegetable operations. After an application is submitted, an NRCS technician will make a field visit to assess resource concerns and discuss the landowner’s conservation needs.
For more information about the Environmental Quality incentives program or to submit an application anyone interested may contact the local NRCS office at 196 Hunt St., Dresden; call 364-5430 Ext 3, or go to the NRCS-Tennessee website at http://www.tn.nrcs.usda.gov/.
