We are very busy at the Dresden Senior Citizens Center. We have lots of actitivites going on and would like to welcome everyone to come out and visit us. Every Thursday, we have a fundraiser lunch for the center. We have an entree, dessert and drink for $5. On Thursday, we will be serving jambalaya and crackers, dessert and drink. Tell all your friends and join us. Eat in or take out.
We are looking for quilters. We have a beautiful quilt top ready to be quilted, so we would really appreciate anyone that would like to join us for quilting at any time.
We are gearing up for our 2011 Halloween dance party on Oct. 27 from 7-10 p.m. We always have a great time. Come on out in your favorite costume and join in the fun. We will give away first, second and third-place prizes for the best costume winners and the Larry Frye Band will be playing.
We are also very excited about our 2011 Weakley County Office on Aging annual Health Fair and Diabetes Awareness expo. This will be held Nov. 5 from 10 a.m. until noon. This health fair offers lots of free screenings that include cholesterol check, blood glucose, body mass index, vision, blood pressure, hearing, foot checks and much much more. Great door prizes will be given away also.
It’s never too early to start planning ahead and we are excited to announce that we will be hosting a New Year’s Eve party with Kenny Presley entertaining us from 7 p.m. until midnight. So, come and dance the night away and bring in the New Year.
Finger foods will be served and we will toast with sparkling grape juice at midnight.
Each person will receive a 2012 souvenir glass to take home. We are looking forward to a wonderful time. This price is $12 per couple or $6 for an individual. Tickets are on sale now, so call 364-5678 to get your place reserved.
Shuffleboard is each Thursday from 10-11 a.m. Hillview Nursing Rehabilitation residents and staff have been joining us for this activity. We are always happy to welcome them.
We would like to welcome Barbara Harding, LPN, to our staff. She will be working with the in-home clients throughout the county with our respite program.
We would also like to invite everyone to our potluck on Oct. 26. Singing will begin at 10:30 a.m. and we will eat at noon. Our special guest speaker for this month will be Jennifer Woods with United Way. We are very fortunate and appreciative for the funds that we receive each year through United Way. Without these funds, many clients throughout Weakley County would not be able to receive home-delivered meals. We would like to stress to everyone that monies we receive each year from United Way provides meals for the elderly in Martin, Sharon, Greenfield, Palmersville, Gleason, Dresden, Latham, Dukedom, Stafford Store and any other area in Weakley County. The money that is generated through the Weakley County Office on Aging is not just for Dresden residents. Again, we are thankful for United Way and volunteers who take their time to make an elderly person’s life better by making funds available so we can provide these services.
Also, on Oct. 26 from 9 a.m. until 4 p.m., a representative from the Tennessee SHIPS program will be here for Medicare open enrollment. To make an appointment, call 1-877-801-0044.
Hope everyone has a wonderful week!
