Donations to the assist the Wounded Warrior Project in its effort to help veterans and troops can be made locally prior to next weekend’s West Tennessee Patriot Run.
The run will be held Oct. 15 beginning at 7 a.m. in Kenton and ending at Pine Hill Park in the Three Way community near Jackson around 4 p.m.
All proceeds will be given to the Wounded Warrior Project on behalf of the troops who died Aug. 6 when a rocket-propelled grenade downed their helicopter in Afghanistan. Among them was Navy SEAL Aaron Vaughn, an Obion County native.
Monetary donations to the Wounded Warrior Project may be dropped off locally at Reelfoot Bank on South First Street in Union City or at Community Bank at 3200 North Highland in Jackson, according to organizers. Checks can be made payable to the West Tennessee Patriot Run.
The 5K (3.1 miles) run/walk in Vaughn’s memory on Oct. 15 will be be preceded by a prayer vigil Oct. 14 at 7 p.m. at Kenton First Baptist Church. Organizers said they want the run and the prayer vigil to honor Vaughn, as well as all of the troops which have served or are currently serving, including the Tennessee Army National Guard’s Union City-based 913th Engineer Co.
