The first-ever Mr. and Miss Oktoberfest scholarship pageant is set for Saturday with registration beginning at 11 a.m.
The event will be held at Festival Park in downtown Martin on the corners of Main and Lindell streets, in conjunction with Tennessee Downtowns annual Oktoberfest. This outdoor pageant will not only feature categories for boys and girls, but a special guest will be on hand that day to crown pageant winners, pose for pictures and sign autographs.
Socialites have probably watched an episode or two of TLC’s popular show “Toddlers and Tiaras.” On Aug. 10, Alexis Jade Todd of Mayfield, Ky. made her appearance on the national show.
Todd entered the pageant world at the young age of 22 months old. She is now six years old and has competed in 40 pageants. Of those, Todd has claimed a winning slot in at least 35 pageants and taken home prizes such as toys, sashes, trophies, plaques, crowns and savings bonds.
The young beauty has been featured on Inside Edition, O.K. magazine and had a mention on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno.
Todd says her goal is to be featured on the cover of a magazine and wear the title of “Miss America.”
The six-year-old will crown winners during Saturday’s Oktoberfest pageant.
Categories for the event are:
• Boys – 0-4 years (two kings will be crowned, 0-23 months old and two to four years old)
• Girls – 0-11 months old; 12-23 months old; 2-3 years old; 4-5 years old; 6-8 years old; 9-12 years old; 13-15 years old and 16-21 years old.
A $100 scholarship will be granted in the 16-21 years old girl division as long as 10 or more are competing for a title in that age category.
Each group will award a king/queen and three alternates. Kings/queens will receive a trophy, crown and banner. Alternates will receive a trophy. All contestants not placing in the royalty category will also receive an award.
A local photographer will be on hand for outdoor photos.
Queens/Sponsor Sweethearts are asked to wear their crown and banner while participating in the Oktober Fest activities following the pageant.
Side categories will include:
• Prettiest Hair
• Prettiest Eyes
• Prettiest Smile
Winners will receive a trophy.
The entry fee for the beauty pageants is $25 and a $5 entry fee for each side category. To enter all categories, the fee is $35.
Sponsor prize packages are available.
Call Dana Brown at 514-9723 for an entry form or for additional information. Entry forms are also available at The Weakley County Press office in downtown Martin.
