|Trey Phipps |
School: Obion Central
By the numbers: Phipps had yet another outstanding game as he led Obion Central to a 40-14 rout of South Gibson County at Troy. Phipps, who is completing over 70 percent of his passes for the season, hit on 18-of-22 tosses for 339 yards and five touchdowns. He now has 24 TDs to just three interceptions.
Sound bite: “I’m hard on Trey during the week, and I think because of that, he relaxes on Friday night and is able to process things easily and perform well,” OC head coach Shawn Jackson said. “He’s really maturing and getting better as a quarterback in the little things, like checking down to his second and third and fourth options, and using his mobility to buy some time in the pocket. He had the one interception at the goal line that I know he’d like to have back, but he’s done a great job of spreading the ball around and finding the open man in our passing game.”
HONORABLE MENTION: J.P. Fowler, SF junior running back, rushed for 139 yards and two touchdowns on 16 carries in the Red Devils’ 41-10 win over Greenfield; LaDevin Fair, OC senior running back, carried 18 times for 146 yards and a touchdown; Marcus Parr, OC senior receiver, had six catches for 132 yards and two touchdowns; Mason McGrew, OC senior receiver, had three catches for 110 yards along with two extra-point kicks and a two-point conversion run; Tanner Cary, OC senior receiver, had six catches for 66 yards and two touchdowns.
