Mother charged with punching daughter
A Gleason woman arrested for domestic assault on her daughter took out her frustrations on a law enforcement officer Friday and collected another charge as a result.
According to a release from the Weakley County General Sessions Court, Gleason police officer Charles Campbell was dispatched to 310 Phelps St. in Gleason and when he arrived, he spoke to Shawana Bailey, who admitted her mother, Shannon Bailey, allegedly struck her in the mouth with a closed fist.
According to the report, Shawana Bailey admitted that she and her mother became engaged in an argument when Shawana returned home after being out with friends.
Shawana was allegedly sitting on the floor during the argument when her mother struck her, causing her mouth to bleed. This garnered a domestic assault charge.
Additionally, when Campbell and officer David King requested that Shannon Bailey come outside, she allegedly admitted she had hit her daughter in the mouth. After explaining the domestic violence law to her and informing her she was under arrest for domestic assault, Bailey refuted the charge and allegedly hit King in the chest with her right hand. This brought on an additional charge of aggravated assault.
