Upward Basketball is looking for players for the 2012 season.
Games are played at Calvary Baptist Church in Union City, and the deadline for registration is Friday.
Registration fee for players is $65, with the fee for cheerleaders $60.
Youths ages kindergarten-6th grade are eligible to participate.
Military discounts for children who have guardians who are currently on active duty.
Calvary office hours are 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday.

Patriot Run slated
in memory of SEAL

The West Tennessee Patriot Run, in memory of fallen Navy SEAL Aaron Vaughn, is set for Oct. 15 starting at 7 a.m. at Kenton First Baptist Church.
A 5K run/walk for the community will serve as the kick-off for a 35-mile run from Kenton to the Three Way community near Jackson by guest runner P.J. Kellogg, a former U.S. Marine, and other runners.
The 5K will include both men’s and women’s divisions for ages 14 and under, 15-19, 20-29, 30-39, 40-49 and 50-plus.
Early registration is $20 by Monday or $25 after Monday, with the first 100 entrants guaranteed a short-sleeved T-shirt commemorating the event. Advance registration forms and a map of the full run route can be obtained by visiting West Tennessee Patriot Run on Facebook or by sending an email to

The run/walk will be preceded by a prayer vigil at 7 p.m. Oct. 14 at Kenton First Baptist Church.

Devilettes at .500
after Haywood win

South Fulton reached the .500 mark for the first time in program history with a 5-1 girls’ soccer victory over Haywood on Monday.
The Devilettes (6-5-1) got goals from Samantha Murray and one each from Lexi Johnson, Desi-ray Sturgeon and Holly Sowell in the win.
