The local Helping Hand food ministry is in need of donations to assist those facing difficult economic times. The organization is located at 430 North Miles Ave. in Union City and there are donation bins at the site. Items may also be delivered to local churches who contribute to the ministry.
Food items needed include cereals; rice; peanut butter; corn meal mix; juice; dried beans; any kind of pasta; macaroni and cheese; flour; jelly; meat meals such as tuna, Spam or ravioli; frozen packages of ground beef; and frozen packages of chicken in 1- to 2-pound containers.
Frozen items should not be left in the drop box or delivered to churches but should be brought into the facility during operating hours so there will be no danger of thawing, a spokesman said.
