Wayne L. Hood, 88, of Martin died Wednesday, Sept. 28, 2011, at the Volunteer Community Hospital in Martin.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at Murphy Funeral Home Chapel in Martin with Rev. Jerry Powell officiating. Military Honors service will be in East Side Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
Honor Guard by Tennessee Highway Patrol and Martin Police Department will serve as pallbearers.
Hood was born July 31, 1923 in Gibson County, son of the late Hugh Lawton and Maude Pruitt Hood. He was a World War II United States Army veteran. He was retired from the Tennessee Highway Patrol after more than 30 years, was a policeman for the City of Martin and worked as a security guard at MTD Products in Martin. He attended Public Wells Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Doris Warden Hood of Martin; one son, John Forrest Hood of Martin; one daughter, Melanie Lee Hood of Martin; two brothers, Bryant Hood and Richard Hood, both of Milan; one sister, Frances Cates of West Memphis, Ark.; and one grandson, Andrew Forrest Hood of Martin.
He was also preceded in death by three brothers, Dale Hood, Joe Hood and Ray Hood.
