Playing its first four Ohio Valley Conference matches on the road, the UM Martin volleyball team kicks off a season-long five-match homestand this weekend.
The Skyhakws will do  battle with Southeast Missouri on Friday and Murray State on Saturday. The matches will begin from Skyhawk Fieldhouse at 6 p.m. and 2 p.m., respectively.
The Skyhawks (7-7) survived from their four-game OVC road trip with an even 2-2 split. Now, UT Martin will look to shoot up the league standings with five home matches in a span of 11 days.
UT Martin junior libero Kasey Elswick ranks No. 1 in the nation in digs per set (6.89), helping pace the suffocating Skyhawk defense.
Elswick — who has shattered the program’s all-time and single-game digs records in the last two weeks — will be recognized before the Southeast Missouri match for her recent accomplishments.
Senior Ashley Doherty has been the team’s best offensive player in 2011, as she has currently reeled off eight consecutive matches of 10 or more kills. Britany Wilburn’s 131 kills rank second on the team while her 0.98 blocks per set is the second-best total in all of the OVC.
UT Martin has also benefitted from remarkably steady play from its setter Jenna Miller, who is second in the league in assists with 10.83 per set.
Last season, the Skyhawks swept SEMO for the first time since 2001, winning 3-1 in Cape Girardeau and 3-2 at home.
After beginning the season with an 0-11 start, Murray State (3-13, 3-2 OVC) has found its way and has chalked up impressive wins at SIU Edwardsville (3-1), at Eastern Illinois (3-1) and at home against Tennessee Tech (3-0).
