Dresden Duplicate Bridge Club met Wednesday afternoon. Players started filing in and Jack Bogue was back from a wedding in Connecticut also. We were happy to have him.
Dr. Tom Mayo joined us after an absence. So, we ended up with 20 players and could enjoy a Mitchell Movement for the exciting game of bridge.
For refreshments, we had spinach  artichoke dip, pimento and cheese, ham salad and assorted crackers, delicious banana nut bread and Alma’s famous strawberry cake.
Winners were: 1st-N/S Freddye Oliver and Jack Bogue; 2nd-N/S Lois Harbour and Minnie Bess Williams; 1st-E/W Tom Beard and Sarah Pentecost; 2nd- E/W Carolyn Rogers and Ruthie Jenkins.
Did you all know that we had a President’s wife who was devoted to snuffing tobacco? Well, we did. Dolly Madison, wife of President James Madison was a devout user of snuff tobacco, often interrupting a moment of socializing to sniff up a pinch from her stained fingers.
The cleanup required after every dose could look decidedly unladylike.  Dolly carried two handkerchiefs for the job, a delicate lacey thing for prep work, and a thicker one for the messy spots.
