Day of play will decide OC champ |

The five programs from the Obion County School System — South Fulton, Lake Road, Ridgemont, Hillcrest and Black Oak — and Union City will play all day Saturday in the county middle school tournament. Play will begin 8 a.m. as Hillcrest meets Black Oak at OC and Ridgemont takes on Union City at Hillcrest. The winners will then take on the top two seeds at 9:30, the Hillcrest-Black Oak winner meeting No. 1 South Fulton at OC and the Ridgemont-UC winner playing No. 2 Lake Road at Hillcrest. Moving to OC’s field, consolation bracket games will be 11 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. Games will follow at 2 p.m., 3:30 and 5 with the title game at 6:30 p.m. In Thursday’s final regular season games, Lake Road blanked Union City 8-0, and South Fulton topped Hillcrest 9-3. LR 8, Union City 0 Jenna Smith had two hits, Hannah Cavness knocked in a pair of runs and Robin Lewis fanned six to get the pitching victory. For UC, Piper Warren and Molly Beth Blackwell each had hits. The trio of Ivey Westbrooks, Carol-ine Chism and Taylor Crittendon combined to fan seven. SF 9, Hillcrest 3 Taylor Rogers had three hits and both Aalia Bivens and Tiffany Potts two for the Devilettes (11-5), who will look to defend their crown in this weekend’s tournament. Katie Clapper was the winning pitcher for SF. Jordan Albright was Hillcrest’s top hitter with a pair of singles. Published in The Messenger 9.30.11 |
