Two DHS students injured in accident

Monday morning as Weakley County Schools Response Team counselors were helping Dresden Middle School to cope with the devastating news that two separate accidents had resulted in hospitalization for one and loss of life for another, Dresden High School Principal Chuck West was learning that two of his students had been injured in a wreck while on the way to school.
West said one student was transported  by ambulance to Volunteer Community Hospital in Martin.
“I went to the scene of the accident and waited as the driver, a junior at our school, was taken there due to complaining of back and hip pain. I’ve just now been informed that this student is being transferred to Memphis for further evaluation.”
West continued, “…the other student, the passenger, was taken from the scene by parents, and I’m told is being checked out at the hospital.”
Officials at the scene told West it appeared the young driver pulled into the line of traffic when attempting to make a left-hand turn onto the highway.
“I’ll be checking with both families to see how our students are doing; we’re just hopeful they won’t suffer any long term issues related to this accident,” West said in a press release.
The victims’ names were unknown at press time.
