A Union City driver was charged after he allegedly told police he was texting on his cell phone just prior to his vehicle striking a parked car and a tree.
Jace Landon Porter, 27, of 814 Garrigan Road, Union City, was charged with texting while driving and failure to maintain right side of roadway following a crash that occurred just before 3 a.m. Saturday in the 300 block of South Fifth Street, according to a Union City Police Department report.
Porter told police he was texting on his phone while driving on South Fifth Street and failed to maintain the right side of the roadway, resulting in his 2006 Ford F-150 striking a legally-parked 2002 Pontiac owned by Kaila Stover of Troy.
Police reported the parked vehicle was struck in the rear and the driver’s side by the front and the passenger side of Porter’s vehicle, which then continued on and struck a tree.
No injuries were reported.
