Shooting death could be accidental
FANCY FARM, Ky. (AP) — A western Kentucky sheriff says the shooting death of a Mayfield man might have been accidental.
Mark Houk, who was 46, was pronounced dead early Sunday at the Jackson Purchase Medical Center in Mayfield. Graves County Coroner Phillip McClain said a gunshot wound to Houk’s upper chest killed him.
Sheriff Dewayne Redmon said a dispatcher got a call late Saturday night about a shooting in Fancy Farm. Authorities said Houk was one of several people at a birthday party at the home where the shooting occurred.
Investigators said Houk went to his camper and several minutes later people heard him calling for help and found he was shot, according to The Paducah Sun.
Redmon said the investigation is ongoing, but he thinks the death will be ruled accidental.
