A local driver and his passenger were both charged with alcohol-related offenses after a vehicle struck a utility pole Friday afternoon on East Main Street in Union City.
Timothy Rashun Carr, also known as Timothy Rashun Island, 30, of 810 Spring Valley Drive, Obion, was charged with driving under the influence, driving on a suspended driver’s license and failure to give immediate notice of an accident, according to a Union City Police Department report.
His passenger, Erico K. Barber, 29, of 613 East Main St., Obion, was charged with public intoxication.
The crash occurred just after 2 p.m. on East Main Street, west of North Division Street. Police reported Carr allegedly failed to stay within his lane of travel while eastbound on East Main Street, resulting in his 2005 Chevrolet colliding with a utility pole in front of 420 East Main St.
The pole was destroyed and the vehicle sustained “disabling damage,” according to the report.
The driver and the passenger both allegedly left the scene and were caught by police in the 100 block of North Ury Street.
Police reported there were no injuries.
