Steve Ladd, Union City public works director, advises city residents that limb and brush crews only pick up trees, limbs and brush for residents who have cut and placed the debris curbside themselves. The department will not pick up debris from contractors who have been paid to cut trees for city residents. These contractors are required to haul away any debris they have been hired to cut down by residents.
There is also an ordinance in effect that prohibits raking, sweeping or dumping leaves, grass clippings and other yard debris into storm drains or to curbs and gutters. Such activity causes the city’s storm sewer system to back up, resulting in the flooding of city streets.
Ladd said the cooperation of citizens in these matters will be greatly appreciated.
