Bank reports theft

Union City police are investigating an incident in which rolls of coins were exchanged at a local bank for a higher amount of cash than the rolls actually contained.
Police responded late Thursday afternoon to First Citizens National Bank at 100 West Washington Ave., where branch manager Candy Whipple said a white woman came in to cash a large amount of rolled coins. The teller took the rolls, added them up without opening them and gave the customer $300, according to a Union City Police Department report.
After the customer left, the teller began breaking open the rolled coins and discovered all the dime rolls were filled with pennies with just a couple of dimes on the ends. After adding up the dime rolls filled with pennies, the coins totaled only $132.92 — resulting in $167.08 having been stolen from the bank.
The customer who exchanged the coins was described as a white female in her late 50s or early 60s with white or blonde hair and wearing a hair net and an apron.
