| | A Saturday evening accident has claimed the life of a young Dresden man.
According to a fatality report issued by the Tennessee Highway Patrol, troopers were called to the scene of a single-vehicle accident Sunday shortly before 10 p.m. on Highway 54 just outside of Dresden.
Lucas Melton, 23, of Dresden was eastbound of Highway 54 when his 1989 Dodge R50 truck apparently ran off the left side of the road before hitting an embankment. The report further states Melton’s vehicle struck several trees.
Trooper Baron Cooper said on Monday Melton was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the incident.
Other agencies responding to the scene included the Weakley County Sheriff’s Department, Weakley County Rescue Squad and ambulance service. Pearce Truck and Auto of Martin cleared the scene.
