Roy Lester Heskett, 74, of Obion died Sept. 19, 2011, at his home.
Memorial services will be 1 p.m. Friday at Cryer Funeral Home in Obion, with the Rev. Cody Pritchett officiating, assisted by the Rev. Jerry Leggett. His ashes will be scattered over his favorite duck-hunting place.
Friends may call at the funeral home from 11 a.m. until the hour of services Friday.
The family requests that memorials be made to the American Cancer Society.
He was born June 7, 1937, son of the late William Washington and Willie (Fitzgerald) Heskett. He attended the former Cloverdale High School, where he took an active part in the basketball and baseball teams.
He was a 30-year veteran of the City of Memphis Fire Department and was a U.S. Army veteran. He was also an active member of Fairview Baptist Church near Obion as long as health permitted.
He married the former JoAnn Cole in May 1958. She survives.
He is also survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Corey Eugene and Corie Jo Heskett of Dyersburg; his sister, Margaret May of Obion; three foster daughters, Rebecca Duff of San Antonio, Karla Dye of Munford and Donna Wilbanks of Memphis; two foster sons, Marvin Wilbanks of Red Banks, Miss., and Freddie English of Trumann, Ark.; three grandchildren, Jeffrey Tyler Heskett Jr. and Holly Diane Heskett, both of Byhalia, Miss., and James Lester Heskett of Dyersburg; 14 foster grandchildren; and his step-grandchild, Braden Grimson.
He was also preceded in death by his son, Jeffrey Tyler Heskett; and four brothers, Acie Heskett, William Heskett, Jesse Heskett and Charles Ray Heskett.
