Winners have been announced for the Banana Festival Photo Contest, held in conjunction with last week’s Banana Festival activities in the Twin Cities of Fulton and South Fulton.
Event chairman Terry Crabtree said 635 photos were entered in six categories during the open period for submission of online photos. There was a separate category for school students.
Judging was all done online and the winners were tabulated after going through three different rounds of elimination.
Best of Show honors went to Linda Ivey of Benton, Ky., for her photo entitled “Brothers.” Second- and third-place Best of Show honors were both claimed by Donnie Carson of Paris for “Smokies in the Fall” and “Old Mill,” respectively.
Ms. Ivey’s Best of Show photo was chosen as the Jerry Rucker People’s Choice Award during voting at the Top Banana reception last week at the Fulton Country Club.
Category winners included:
• Places — First, Carson; second, Carson; and third, Carson.
• Digital darkroom — First, Lauren Bell of Wingo, Ky.; second, Roy Cates of Martin; and third, Cory Edmison of South Fulton.
• Flowers — First, Ms. Ivey; second, Ms. Ivey; and third, Ms. Ivey.
• People — First, Ms. Ivey; second, Allie Douglass of Murray, Ky.; and third, Megan Bunte of Paducah, Ky.
• Nature and landscapes — First, Rachel Melton of Sharon; second, Ms. Melton; and third, Carson.
• Animals — First, Ronnie Burrow of Columbus; second, Linda Daivey of Benton, Ky.; and third, Maray Baker of Pleasureville, Ky.
• Student contest — First, Ms. Melton; second, Ms. Melton; and third, Ms. Baker.
The winning photos will remain on display in the front window of Evans Total Care at 208 Lake St. in downtown Fulton through noon Friday.
