An Obion teenager told police he was assaulted during a break-in early today at a home on East Cheatham Street in Union City.
Police responded about 12:15 a.m. today to a report of an assault at 719 East Cheatham St., where a 17-year-old Obion youth was allegedly assaulted during a home invasion which occurred while he was babysitting, according to a Union City Police Department report.
Michael Busby of 719 East Cheatham St. told police he and his girlfriend had gone to Walmart and the girlfriend’s nephew, the 17-year-old, was babysitting for them.
Busby said when he arrived back home, the teen ran up from across the street, carrying the 6-year-old child whom he was babysitting and yelling that they had been robbed. Busby called 911.
The teen told police he was sitting on the couch and the child was asleep on the couch with him when he heard banging on the front door. He said the door broke open and two black men ran into the residence, according to the report.
He told police one of the men grabbed him and started pulling him to the bedroom area, and he tried to pull away when one of the men punched him in the face. The teen said he fell to the floor and the two men stepped over him going into the bedroom. He told police he jumped up, grabbed the child off the couch and ran out of the house and across the street, where he started knocking on a neighbor’s front door. He reported he could not get anyone to the door, so he just laid on the porch and made the child hide under a chair.
The teen said a short time later, he noticed the two men running from the front door and one of them was carrying something big in his arms, according to the report.
Police reported Busby checked his residence and found where a home safe had been taken from his bedroom.
